Self Hypnosis Tips

December 19th, 2009

Hypnosis has long been rumored to have powerful mind-altering properties which can help to treat a range of psychological conditions and lifestyle habits. Conjuring images of elaborate stage shows with unsuspecting ordinary people making a fool of themselves, hypnotism has been seen as a joke, or entertainment for decades. Although conventional medicine may still be a little skeptical as to the effectiveness of alternative treatments like hypnosis, there are hundreds of thousands of success stories around the world in favor of these alternative methods. By conducting the mind of the patient (or victim?) in a state of total relaxation, the hypnotist can change the pattern of thought, for example to turn a patient off smoking cigarettes. It is thought that whilst the mind is reduced to this placid, almost semi-conscious state, the hypnotist can access the inner most anxieties and feelings of the patient to make a permanent change to their mental well-being.
The process of self-hypnosis takes conventional hypnotism one stage further. Rather than hypnosis for stage performance, or for treating others, self-hypnosis revolves around sending one’s own mind into a state of relaxation. By learning the key techniques to hypnotizing one’s self, you can treat a variety of your fears and anxieties, and allow a platform for self-improvement at many different levels.
It is important firstly to make the distinction between hypnosis, and what is known as hypnotherapy. Hypnotherapy is the actual treatment of patients with psychological needs, such as those who wish to break life-long habitual behavior, and those who want treatment for some underlying mental condition. Hypnosis on the other hand refers to the natural mental we may all experience from time to time, which relaxes the mind and opens it to the power of subtle suggestion. Hypnosis is generally reserved for improving self worth and an overall sense of well-being, and can be a very powerful and relaxing technique.
The first thing to do to hypnotize yourself is to find a relaxed and comfortable environment. Lie down, or sit down in a comfortable chair. Be conscious of the weight of your body being absorbed by the platform on which you are sitting, and feel relaxation through your arms, legs and torso. Close your eyes, and try to forget about the world, focusing on deep breathing and utter calm. After around a quarter of an hour, you should awake as if from a sleep, and you will feel significantly more relaxed and refreshed, ready to continue your daily business and deal with the stresses of every day life.
Hypnosis is a very natural process, and it is certainly not to be feared. Think of hypnosis as a conscious sleep, and understand that you are still in complete control of your actions throughout. It is merely a process whereby we can feel comfortable and deal with stress in a more constructive and healthy way.

Successful Self Hypnosis

It’s important to first acknowledge that hypnosis is a natural state of being, which we all achieve daily without being consciously aware of it or giving it a name. The bridge between being awake and being asleep is what we call hypnosis.
That answers the question of who can achieve hypnosis. We all can, and we all do. But it’s the degree to which we can benefit from this altered state which varies tremendously, as well as the concept of being able to achieve that state at will.
Some people are naturally more suggestible than others. This contributes to the varying depths of susceptibility that we see regularly. The degree to which we will accept hypnosis, and the depth of the altered state that we can reach, will depend on our natural susceptibility to suggestion. Some people are more likely to take suggestion on board, consciously or not, and apply it in their inner world.
I agree with a point often made by other experts in the field, who state that our level of susceptibility, and our ability to achieve a deep state of hypnosis, are not that relevant in terms of being able to benefit. In other words, there is no level of failure in hypnosis. We can all benefit to a degree that is entirely dependent on each of our own individual factors. These factors of course include things we cannot control, like our individual characteristics. But aside from these natural differences, the more important variables really come down to each person’s motivation and their level of commitment.
Individuals who are regularly able to make the time to listen to their self hypnosis recordings or go to their hypnotherapist will experience a greater degree of benefit than anyone who only half-heartedly commits to it. If you don’t motivate yourself to the use of self hypnosis, then there is no benefit. Hypnosis is not magic; it requires a level of commitment, however small, to make positive changes in your life. This is true of any type of therapy.
Your attitude plays a large influence on the effects of hypnotherapy. If you seek to disprove the theory of hypnosis, you will certainly not enter into hypnosis with the open mind that is required to achieve higher susceptibility. Or if you are overly focused on analyzing the results rather than enjoying them, you will put up unnecessary barriers which will certainly impede the process and influence the degree of benefit that you can possibly achieve.
The best advice I give to anyone who is interested in using self hypnosis to achieve changes in their life, is to just relax and go with the flow. Let it all happen naturally and don’t challenge it. The more conscious effort you make the less response you’ll get from your unconscious mind. It really is as simple as that.
As a hypnotherapist who uses hypnosis, and witnesses its effects daily, I can say with confidence that I see no reason why anyone can’t benefit from self hypnosis to some degree. And it’s that degree that is ultimately entirely up to each of us. If you make the effort to use hypnosis and have an open mind, then the possibilities are endless. Your attitude is the key to successful self hypnosis.

The unconscious mind understands and processes all the information, that we see and feel. Self Hypnosis – Power of the Subconscious Mind

November 28th, 2009

Self Hypnosis is a subject which evokes a million responses from a million different people. Some feel overawed by it, yet others are plain scared of it; some others seem skeptical about it, and yet others are what we know as believers? Have you ever found yourself wondering what Self Hypnosis is all about? Have you been intrigued by the success stories you have heard, but never thought you could benefit from it?

Various people may have various reactions to self-hypnosis, however the fact remains that it is fast emerging as a field of science which can prove beneficial in successfully addressing a myriad problems in anyone’s life. Contrary to popular belief it is not about “seeing a magician” or “getting help”, it’s about being self empowered. Self hypnosis is about taking the responsibility of bringing about changes in your life, in your own hands. It is meant for anyone who wants to work at changing aspects of their personality, or habits that they have formed.

At my practice in Oxfordshire I am often asked to describe what self-hypnosis is. I often find myself telling my clients that it is nothing but the awakening and strengthening of our subconscious mind. Our subconscious mind is more powerful than we can ever imagine, and it’s high time we gave it, its due. Self-hypnosis is all about connecting our conscious mind, with the subconscious mind. It’s like making two long lost friends meet each other. Or better still, it’s like helping two spouses who often miss connecting with each other on a busy day, reconnect with each other. In order to master the art of awakening our subconscious mind, it is necessary that we take out time from our hectic schedules to talk to it, to coax it to blossom into its full glory.

I often equate the process of self-hypnosis as something that is as similar to driving a car. When we first learn to drive it, we are careful about all the maneuvers that we need to make to have a smooth ride…push the accelerator, release the clutch, steady the wheel. When we first begin, it seems like we would be reduced to nothing but nervous wrecks while driving; however, as time passed and driving became a routine, most of us did not pay even the slightest attention to the strategies required to drive a car. Because we function on something called auto-pilot. The act of driving, and all the maneuvers associated with it are so well imprinted in our minds, that we do not need to put in a conscious effort. It has by default become a part of the subconscious mind. Self-hypnosis too, is related to the subconscious and it requires practice. There is a certain amount of discipline required to awaken our sleeping subconscious.

Self Hypnosis is basically a means of letting your subconscious mind communicate with your conscious mind. We can only establish contact with our subconscious minds, when we relax and let our conscious mind take a back seat. Our subconscious mind has immense powers, and it can be mastered with routine practice. Once the programming has been done, our little computer functions automatically on the responses it has stored in early practice sessions.

With the help of self-hypnosis, you can successfully alter habits such as smoking, nervousness, drug or alcohol addiction. Similarly when it comes to personality development, use of self hypnosis can make you a more confident and assertive person, it can instill a positive self image, become a performance booster and even help make your life a better place to be in.

Research suggests that we only use about 10% of our subconscious’s total potential. So just imagine if we could put into the use rest 90% how different life could be!

Get The Most Out Of Self Hypnosis

November 24th, 2009

There are many benefits to using self hypnosis. It can be used to overcome fears, fight addictions such as smoking, improve confidence and self esteem, and improve sports performance, to name just a few. In fact self hypnosis can be used to improve just about anything you want to in your life.
For some people self hypnosis is extremely easy and requires very little effort. Some take to it like a duck to water, while other people may need to experiment a bit more to reap the wonderful benefits it can bring. This article intends to help you get the most out of self hypnosis.
Self hypnosis can involve a little bit of trial and error at the beginning until you start to identify the conditions that best suit you as an individual. Variables such as the ideal body position, or the most opportune time of day are truly yours to determine based on your particular situation, schedule, and individuality. It’s important to remember that there are no fixed rules that apply to everyone. Everyone is unique and it is left to you to identify what works and how you can most effectively reach that desired state.
There are, however, a few elements which will help increase your degree of success with self hypnosis, regardless of individual needs. Some of the points I will address or based on listening to a recorded self hypnosis CD or download. However, I’ll start with the issues which should be addressed regardless of whether you’re listening to a recording or not.
A fairly obvious requirement is total relaxation, which usually requires reduced distractions. So it is very important to try and find a quiet place that limits or completely obliterates outside sources and choose a time when you are certain you won’t be interrupted. Ensure that if you have people at home, tell them to not disturb you for however long you want, unless of course there is an emergency.
Knowing that hypnosis is in fact an altered state on consciousness, it bears noting that the early morning may not be the best time. You may find you’re extremely alert and hyper-sensitive to distractions at that time. Instead, pick a time of day when you’re slowing down, or typically starting to feel fatigued. For most people, self hypnosis is best in the evening time, preferably more bedtime.
The most useful bit of advice I can give to a beginner is try not to try too hard. Self hypnosis requires concentration, but being overly focuses on being hypnotized will impair the process. Part of the self hypnosis process is being able to just let go and let it happen to you. Rather than focusing on achieving hypnosis, focus on nothing, and let the message make its way clearly and seamlessly, effortlessly, whether it’s a recording or your own words.
Using a recording is a great for self hypnosis. One key factor in getting the most out of a recorded self hypnosis session is regular listening. Repetition is the key to successful suggestion and the more you subject your mind to the message, the more it will penetrate and impact.
Another important factor in getting the most out of a recorded self hypnosis session is to wear headphones. Not only are headphones great if you’re easily distracted, but they also promotes an intimacy between you and the voice on the recording, closing off outside noises, and facilitating a more direct route to your mind.
Like anything else, you will only get out of self hypnosis what you’re willing to put into it. If you’re determined to find ways to fight hypnosis and disprove its effectiveness, you’re unlikely succeed. This is essentially true of anything we do in life. But if you go into it with a clear open mind and you’re willing to invest the time to find your ideal hypnosis conditions, you can literally reap of benefits of self hypnosis on a fairly regular basis, even daily.

November 20th, 2009

A self hypnosis technique is used to induce oneself into a state of hypnosis, usually with aid of an audio program or a series of steps to stimulate the state of hypnosis, whereby positive suggestion becomes easily accepted by the subconscious mind and the conscious does not interfere.
The hypnosis technique covered in this article will be the one which several steps are used to slow down the brain waves and this will help our minds to accept whatever information we feed into it. This self hypnosis technique is highly effective at revolutionizing our lives as it creates positive beliefs and leads to constructive actions to achieve our goals.
So let’s move on to the steps of this hypnosis technique!
Firstly lay down in a comfortable position as this hypnosis technique requires deep relaxation. Next, roll your eyes up and inward a little, as if you’re trying to see something in the center of your forehead. Hold your eyes in that position and take five deep slow breaths in and out, and focus your entire conscious mind on hearing those breaths and being totally aware of them. Now your brain waves will have changed from BETA to ALPHA and your will be very relaxed. At this point of the hypnosis technique you should think about a goal that you must achieve. Picture it in your mind as if it has already happened and make it seem as real as possible to your subconscious mind.
This self hypnosis technique will cause the things your imagine in this self hypnosis technique so fuse with reality, because your subconscious mind cannot tell the difference between real and imagined, so it will gradually move you towards what it thinks your already have.

Later a printed material of this talk will make you easily fall into a deep sleep with a half conscious. Spoken words is most being used as an induction rather than drugs.
The hypnosis script needs a composition of the mater that will be recited to the person. There are many choices of words that have penetrating effect in conveying the ideas. This script must be meaningful with powerful and touching words. The patient should experience a supreme feeling from the beginning until the end. A perfect script should contain all the elements for a complete resonance.
The hypnotic induction concentrates on the inner reality. The script begins with progressive relaxation to stillness. Rhythmic breathing is a vital part of the relaxation. The hypnotist enters into the patient’s inner reality. The patient at a certain stage will be dissociated from the surroundings as the person becomes more suggestible. By raising the level of suggestibility, the most important part in hypnotic induction, the patient is placed imaginatively in a beautiful place induced by the therapist. Later the suggestions are being induced that are the patient’s own inventions. There is a philosophical and behavioral suggestion.
For a smoker the therapist would ideally highlight his family members and through it convey the message of quitting smoking. The hypnotist will also forward hatred into the mind of the patient that after the sleep, the patient will definitely quit smoking.
After all suggestions, the hypnotist has to wind up the session leading the patient to his or her normal thinking. The relaxation time may also be extended for allowing the patient to rest a little more. When the script is complete, it should be recorded and transferred to a CD. Music can be added as background to this script.
